Aquarium Ornament Stability

Keeping Fish Tank Decorations Upright

Whatever the aquarium ornament you choose is, be sure that the object will not fall over and break the aquarium glass. This problem applies more so toward natural rock and wood decorations rather than resin and ceramic ornaments. Such man made articles are often designed with stability in mind.

Where the ornament base is not perfectly flat, bed it into the gravel for extra stability. Some cichlids will constantly undermine ornaments causing them to topple no matter how well they are bedded. For such aquariums more drastic action may be required.

It may be best to attach unstable objects to a slate base using an acetic cure silicone adhesive. Similarly an ornament can be attached directly to the base or sides of an aquarium with such a product.

Always establish the heavier end of an ornament and place it at the bottom. Doing so will keep the decoration's centre of gravity low, ensuring your aquarium ornament will be more stable.
