The striking feature of the khuli loach is it's elongated body shape. Compared to many typically shaped fish it is more similar in appearance to a small eel.
The colouration is dark brown and orange but the pattern can vary. Brown vertical stripes may circle the entire body of the khuli loach. On other loaches the markings may only circle part of the body or be broken into patches.
For it's size this loach is a very strong swimmer. It typically rests motionless in between spurts of rapid movement. The lower water level is the usual swimming space of the khuli though they will sometimes bury themselves in the gravel
The bottom dwelling nature of the khuli loach makes them excellent scavenging substrate cleaners. They will accept most foods offered.
