Endler's GuppyPoecilia sp. EndlerEndler's guppies are brightly coloured with patches of blue, orange, green and other tones in vibrant shades. Compared with regular guppies the male is much smaller but his colours have a greater vibrancy. Having studied the original specimens in detail Dr. Endler believes their has been a great deal of hybridization with normal
guppies to create the Endler's guppies available today. He notes that a black finned color morph making up 20% of the wild group is not represented at all in modern aquaculture. HabitatThis colourful livebearer may be extinct in the wild due to the destruction of it's habitat. A waste disposal facility has polluted the original collection site but Dr. Endler believes a second site may possibly still exist but urbanization has changed the landscape to the point that it may already be to late. Family - Poeciliidae - species yet to be classified Endler's Guppy ReproductionBreeding follows the same pattern as other livebearers but the parents are perhaps more likely to eat their fry. The gestation period is only 23 days but the number of fry is usually less than that of a common guppy.
