Aquarium Algae Treatments
Avoid touching these algae treatment chemicals as many are proven carcinogens. While the treatments are active you should use tongs or wear long rubber gloves instead of touching the water. This will stop the algae treatments coming into contact with exposed skin.
Treating the problem is not as simple as it may seem in planted aquariums. Choose the products carefully as plant die back can also result from aquarium algae treatments. Increasing the dosage from the manufacturer's recommendations may mean the end of your underwater garden altogether. Consider using other algae control methods where rare or expensive aquatic plants are involved.
Once the algae has been treated it may still be visibly adhered to plants and aquarium fixtures. This dead plant matter can be removed a lot more easily than if it were still alive. A gentle wipe is usually all that is required to remove the offending slime.
