Amazon Sword Plant
Echinodorus species
There are a vast of different amazon sword plants all of which have a roughly sword shaped leaf. There can be a great deal of variation between the leaves of different species and even in leaves on the same plant. These leaves grow in a rosette from the base of the plant. There are some 30 species and subspecies kept in the aquarium which can be difficult to identify. A number of hybrids have been produced which makes classification even more difficult. Some are quite large and striking in appearance making the Amazon sword a good candidate as a feature plant.
