Air Pump
The air pump output required will depend on your aquarium size and depth aswell as other fators including the water temperature and fish species. The manufacturer will usually offer a rating for the amount of air the pump can move in a minute or hour. Remember that this rating is based on use at atmospheric pressure, but the actual pressure when used below the water will be greater than this resulting in less air output. Deep aquariums will require a strong air pump for satisfactory air movement.
The casing of modern aquarium pumps is always plastic. Many have sleek designs but performance is more important as the air pump is generally housed inside a cabinet or an otherwise out of site space.
