Aquarium Air Curtain
Air curtains are a flexible form of air stone sometimes also known as an air wall. They can be contoured to suit the individual aquarium. They are generally long cylinder shapes where the air source is connected at one end while the remaining end is sealed.
Air curtains are generally manufactured in increments of 15cm (6 inch) so that a suitable length is available for common aquarium dimensions.
An air curtain can be bent to create a bubble wall of the shape you choose. Once formed, the air curtain's shape will stay in position indefinitely due to the internal wire skeleton. When the time comes to redecorate your aquarium this can easily be achieved by repositioning the bubble wall into it's new shape.
Imagination is the main limitation to what can be done with an air curtain. Try to think beyond the traditional placement where the the bubble wall is placed in the background of the fish tank. Consider forming the air curtain into a centre piece spiral or even weaving it amongst the roots and limbs of a large piece of bogwood. In a tall hexagon shaped aquarium these are the perfect accessory for creating a sheet of tiny bubble around the perimeter.
When powering the air curtain keep in mind that a longer bubble wall requires a more powerful pump. If underpowered bubbles may not weep from the full length of the device. The depth of the aquarium will also need to be taken into account when choosing an air device as the pressure will reduce bubble flow at greater water depths.
Sometimes an air curtain may move around due to their light weight. This can be remedied using a heater holder or pair of rocks to hold it in position.
