Bubble Action Clam Ornament

The bubbling clam is a classic aquarium ornament. It is anything but a subtle ornament with it's steady motion and clapping noises. They are sometimes known as a burping clam by those who mock it. It is the type of ornament that people either love or hate because of it's loud personality and bold presence.

In the photograph the lid is in the open position but the clam opens and closes with the bubble flow. The lid of the clam opens and releases a group of bubbles every 1-3 seconds or slower depending upon your air pump volume. After release the hinge closes to collect the next group of bubbles. Inside a bounty of lustrous pearls awaits the brave treasure seeker. The helps to ensure that the clam does not shift around on the fish tank floor. This aquarium ornament measures 12cm in width.

The clam's design is based on the Tridanca gigas of the south west pacific. These clams are the world's largest mollusk in both dimension and weight. Large specimens have been recorded weighing 230 kg and measuring a meter in length. You may be familiar with them from B grade movies and cartoons where unsuspecting divers often find their foot trapped in between the closed shells.

Although not as large as these giant clams, this ornament does display the large wavy ribs and concentric growth rings which are typical of the species.
