Black Worms vs Bloodworms

Does anyone know what the difference between black worms and blood worms?

Black worms are a variety of tubifex worm. Where they were once collected from sewerage outlets, they are now bread in captive cultures. The species of worms cultured have more sanitary dietary needs than their wild cousins. They can be purchased live and will stay that way for several weeks if kept cool with regular water changes.

If your blackworm source is a good one they will purge the worms before sending them to shops. This will result in their water becoming clouded more slowly. To keep the worms in peak condition It does not hurt to change the water as frequently as you fee is required. Blackworms don't mind chlorine, they can live under a running cold tap. If you keep them somewhere cold and spacious with some banana skin or a bit of soaked grain you might even see some baby worms.

Bloodworms are the aquatic larvae of an insect. Midges reproduce similarly to mosquitoes in bodies of still water. Their larvae usually congregate at the bottom rather than at the top as mosquitoes do. They are usually sold frozen rather than live.
