Undergravel Aquarium Filters
Undergravel filters are a popular filtration method.
They were once considered a must have in any aquarium and are still very useful for today's fish keeper. By using them in conjuction with another filter you can optimise water quality.
Sponge Filters can also be used alone in aquariums stocked with a lower fish density.
The undergravel filter utelises mechanical and biological filtration methods. Water is biologically purified as it filters through your gravel where micro organisms will colonise. Mechanical water filtration occurs as small particles lodge in the gravel.
